My dear bookworms,
these last few days I have been just a tiny bit obsessed with everything mermaids. And given that this 2018 seems to be marked by novels about these sea creatures, I thought it would be interesting to make a list of 5 upcoming books about mermaids !
The Mermaid and Mrs Hancock by Imogen Hermes Gowar.
I am currently reading it and considering I'm enjoying it so much, I had to make some space for it in this top 5.
This is an historical novel in which reality and magic are perfectly intertwined, where the mermaid is a clever expedient to set things in motion, shaking up every life it touches.
This debut novel is one of the most anticipated books of this year and now that I am halfway through it I can see where the hype comes from. So, add it to your wishlists !
To Kill a Kingdom by Alexandra Christo
This is a YA retelling of the Little mermaid, in which a sea princess is cast from her realm to live among humans. Here she meets a prince who has sworn to hunt down and kill every mermaid he can find in his journey across the seas. Sounds good, am I right? 😏
The Surface Breaks by Louise O'Neill
This is a reimagined feminist version of The Little mermaid by Hans Christian Andersen.
I am waiting to read more reviews about it in order to see if it is worth to read or not, but for the moment I can say that this novel intrigues me a lot: I like the cute cover and the idea of reading a new and modern version of a classic fairytale.

Sea Witch by Sarah Henning
Aaawww let's talk about this cover!? Isn't it just amazing? This is (yep, another!) retelling of The Little Mermaid, but told from the Sea Witch point of view, when she was just a little girl...

The Shape of Water by Guillermo del Toro
This is not exactly about mermaids, but sort of... because the protagonist of this heartbreaking love story is a sea creature.
I didn't have the chance to watch the film yet, but if you did, please let me know if I am missing out or not! :D

Happy Readings,
Miei carissimi lettori,
The Mermaid and Mrs Hancock by Imogen Hermes Gowar.
Tenetelo d'occhio!
To Kill a Kingdom by Alexandra Christo
